This is the fourth book in the Dark Obsession series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Ethan Barclay is a dangerous man, he’s had to be to survive the hand that he was dealt in life. We first met this character and learned a lot about him in the previous books. He was portrayed as the bad guy with criminal connections yet this reader couldn’t dislike him, he’s a most intriguing complex man with secrets and redeemable actions. He has one weakness, a woman that he’s known since he was young, that he shares a horrible past with. He walked away from her because she deserved better than him, to let her lead a better life but he’s made a mistake. She was recently hurt and he stayed at her side at the hospital for too long, now his enemies know that she’s important to him and worse, where to find her.

Carly Shay is a survivor. The horrors from her past almost broke her but she’s made a decent life for herself since then in New York. Back in the city after returning from Washington D.C. where she’d gone to see her half-sister, she’s confronted by the presence of the only man who has ever made her feel, the man who left her when she needed him the most, and the man who shares her secrets. She’d hoped to leave him behind in D.C., he says that he’s there to protect her, but who will protect her from him?

Unbeknownst to Carly, Ethan watched over her from a distance through the years, in a manner that could be considered stalking, to protect her from the associations of the past. They share a secret but that’s not why he looks after her, she’s the only woman he’s ever wanted but didn’t dare to have. Now that she’s a target he’ll do anything it takes to protect her. The authorities think that he’s a monster that they haven’t been able to touch, he just might prove them right to protect the woman that he loves and the only woman who’s ever protected him.

I was so looking forward to Ethan’s story and this book did not disappoint, I loved it. Ethan and Carly are strong characters with deep emotions and tragic pasts. They understand each other like no one else can and are no strangers to the darker side of humanity that we all have within us. Their darkness defines them to an extent but doesn’t control them. When cornered they come out fighting harder. They’re two very compelling protagonists who deserve some happiness.

The storyline was gripping, fast paced with great action and suspense, unexpected plot twists and devious villains that know how to hold a grudge. The sex scenes were steamy and Carly brings out the tenderness deep inside Ethan. The prologue sets the stage with the past where we see the makings of our anti-hero, the ending sets the stage for the best possible future for this couple. Will we see them again in future stories? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Let me start by saying that although this is the fourth book in a series, I don't think you'll have a problem understanding anything, even if you haven't read any of the other stories. With that being said, I do think you'll enjoy it so much more if you HAVE read the other three in the 'Dark Obsession' series first. Ethan is introduced in book one, and Carly book three if I remember correctly. I think there is even a crossover character (Victor Monroe) from book four of the 'Mine' series who is an FBI agent and plays a huge part in this one. Victor's story is already in the works and Ms. Eden did such a great job setting it up I'm on tenterhooks and can't wait for its release...

This installment starts out with Ethan confronting Carly and trying to protect her from the danger of their past. This woman has been through hell and back and I just thought she was amazing! I went into this fascinated with Ethan, but by the end I fell in love with Carly who is a fighter and a survivor. I can't even begin to imagine what all she's gone through and I respected the heck out of her. Ethan is a hard, dangerous, and powerful man. He's ruthless and doesn't make apologies for his past. He is definitely not a "good" guy, but there's something about him that I loved. Carly is the only light in Ethan's darkness and he will do anything, even kill, to keep her safe.

This is one of the most beautiful love stories I've read in a long time. It's a little dark, but intense and all-consuming. Carly and Ethan were just perfect for each other. Their passion, love, loyalty and devotion to each other was honest and never faltered. These are two people that get each other on a deeper level and to me, were utter soul mates. This is a romantic suspense, with lots of twists and turns, and plenty of bloodshed. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The writing was smart and sexy, and I was so happy to see Sophie again (book 2) since she's another of my faves. I just love this author's work and can't recommend this series highly enough!
When Ethan was mentioned in practically the first paragraph of Watch Me, I knew I’d be waiting impatiently for his book. I waited and I wasn’t disappointed. Ethan is a superhot dominant male.
He wants Carly back, but why he ever let her go to begin with is beyond me. He loved her. But he thought she’d be better off without him. (Why do they always think that?) She needed him, and he wasn’t there for her. You can tell I am kinda pissed off he left her and got on with his life of women and crime can’t you? It’s a book, I know! But really?? If he loved her and was keeping track of her why didn’t he know all her woes? She just took him back no questions asked. That kinda pissed me off too. I’d have made him work a little harder to get back in my good graces.
I know I sound harsh about the characters, but I did love the book and I highly recommend it. I did read Watch Me and Want Me. I have Need Me and I need to read that to get more background on Carly and Ethan’s story. I’ll update this review when I do.
So if you want to read about a hot alpha male, Ethan, this is the book for you!
